LINKES gets its name from ‘Lincoln Avenue’ and ‘Kestrel Road’, the streets which surround the multi-storey flats where we are based. We take a Community Development Approach to our work, which means that we aim to keep in touch with people in the community in order to respond to expressed needs and opportunities.

The core of our work is providing a weekly programme of groups and activities with our partners. We also signpost people to other services, organisations and agencies. We are interested in capacity building and support local people to develop their skills, experience and knowledge to benefit the wider community. We are also interested in integration and coordinate or participate in a number of events and campaigns throughout the year to bring people together. LINKES was started and is governed by local people.

We formed as a constituted group in 2002 and gained charitable status in 2006. In 2011 we registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee. In 2012, following OSCR’s (The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) recommendation and to simplify our bureaucratic procedures, we converted to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization (SCIO). We have since been known legally as LINKES [SCIO].

Our charitable purposes remain the same: to provide opportunities for learning and well-being and to utilise our community facilities for the benefit of the community. If you are interested in getting involved (with groups, volunteering or on the board), please get in touch to find out more.
